What's keeping you from succeeding in life? Have you ever started a project and never completed it? (It's ok to admit that you have; I've been there before too).
"Ok Ricardo. I hear ya. So how do I start succeeding? What's the secret?"
There's no magic bullet. It's a process. And you start by identifying the conflicts that are keeping you from moving forward.
[This video by Tony Robbins is approximately 3.03 min long.]
I do nothing but start project and not finish. Mostly with writing books. I'll be on a roll, something will happen that will make me stop or another idea will come into mind and then I'm on that book. Crazy. I'm off to watch the video now.

Hi Ricardo - isn't Tony Robbins fab. And it's a great point - it's so much easier to move forward when we can recognise what is holding us back.

@Natural: Hiya! I hope you enjoy the video :-P
You know, when it comes to the type of projects that you're working on, I'm sure that they naturally take more time. So I wouldn't say that you're necessarily "not finishing" them. You just got some ideas to iron out before you're there :-)
@Cath: Hey you! How have you been?
Tony Robbins is great! Talk about motivating... The only time that you can move forward is when you acknowledge and tackle the things that are holding you back.

"Align your life with what you value - and then take action" -- this is a powerful statement Tony makes. It's a real key to unlocking our potential. So, what's stopping me? This is good food for thought on a Sunday afternoon. Thanks for sharing it here Ricardo.

I enjoyed this! To echo Lance, "Align your life with what you value," is a very powerful statement. I start and finish a lot. Mostly because I'm an ideas person. One of my top values is creativity: I love to create, explore and create some more.

@Lance & @Davina: it truly is a VERY powerful statement! I wanted to share this video with Anthony Robbins because he hi-lights some very important points...points that maybe we forget from time to time in the midst of life's hectic moments ya know?!
@Davina: Creativity is a trait that we should all allow to roam free. It's ok that some projects projects take a little longer to finish...let your creativity run free. What I think is important is learning to prioritize which projects we want finished NOW and being able to commit to those without letting things get in our way.

Amazing post and yes Tony Robbins is amazing as well. The key is "WHAT" is stopping you. I have been trying to analyze my fears for years. Sometimes the actual fear is so silly that it must be something else..

Hi Ribeezie
I think its very true that we can have hidden thoughts and fears that are at odds with out conscious intentions. Flushing them out and dealing with them is often the key to success.

"Inner Conflicts Between Fighting Parts" > Wow, that is powerful. I definitely have conflicting thoughts and goals (doesn't everyone). Yesterday, for example, I told my husband that I want to see my scale go down this week...but I was craving a whopper w/ cheese, fries, and a large coke. I ate healthy all weekend and my weight WILL GO DOWN this week, but that doesn't mean my thoughts and inner chatter don't conflict.

Sadly I have to admit that for the longest time I was holding myself back with the thought, "I just don't have it in me". As a result I started many projects and when they didn't fly in a month I moved on to the next.

I am probably going to sound like an a$$hole for saying this, but, I once I start a project? I alway finish it. I may take me a long time, and I may think about giving up...nevertheless, I think my OCD is quite handy in forcing me to finish whatever I start!

@BloggerNewbie: I hear ya. Even little things have a way of impacting us significantly sometimes... Ultimately, I think it's a matter of keeping a positive mindset in light of whatever might be troubling us.
@Robin: flushing them out is most definitely the key to success..the hard part is finding the things that are most troubling us in the first place.

That's a pretty good message for a 3-minute clip. I have to admit to being somewhat skeptical of Robbins, mostly from the old days when he ran those 30-minute infomercials. But he's outlasted a lot of others, so he must be doing something right.
The whole concept of inner conflict holding you back makes a lot of sense. I've never heard it parsed out like this. I'm at a bit of a crossroads right now, so this is really timely.

I am very hit and miss with this as some projects I can complete (an undergraduate degree, two post grad diplomas and 2 drafts of a 280 page novel) and others I flip and flop.
I'd agree that it's all about identifying and managing the conflicts that are getting in the way, but I also think we need to make a decision to commit to a project and once we're committed then we don't let the conflicts sway us. The problem is too often we never make that concrete commitment to ourselves, possibly because we don't really want to, or we are MORE committed to something else that is in conflict with this goal.
Sometimes I think it's all so complicated I want to give up and go live on a tropical island to work on my tan!
Cheers
Kelly

@Stacey: [So I wrote the following "serious" comment in response to the first sentence you wrote. The latter part of your comment cracked me up :-P]
Yup! We all do! Anyone who says they don't have conflicting thoughts or goals is a liar :-P We all have conflicting thoughts & goals; some very small, some very big. They're a part of life. They present themselves in our journey and ultimately challenge us and shape who we are.
I think that Tony is suggesting we become conscious of these moments so that we can overcome our obstacles sooner than later.
On a happy note :-) Good going on avoiding that whopper and meeting your goal for the week! Now go celebrate w/a happy meal (smaller portions ya know)...
@Maya: we all suffer through "I don't have it in me" syndrome at some point or another. At the end of the day, we just have to realize that we have a choice between 1.) sitting idly and letting life go by, 2.) or stepping up to the recommendation of the Nike slogan: "Just Do It!"
We'd be surprised what that one little thing can do... We have to stop imposing glass ceilings on the heights that we aim to reach.
@Meleah: Girl, you crack me up! Do I think you're an a$$hole? Of course not :-P (A little bit of a jerk/brat maybe... Hehe...) You've found a balance for yourself that others are looking to find and I think that's great! All I can say is share your passion and a bit of yourself with others every day (I know that you do that already) so that they can better themselves and find their own balance. Remember what I said about generosity? :-)

Ricardo
I totally get the running thing. I run too and it completely clears my mind and grounds me. I think I'd go mad without the ability to run.

@Bill: ha! I can't picture him doing those infomercials :-P I chose this clip out of many others because it's shorter in length and yet very impacting. I spent the weekend going through some of his clips; I likes Robins. He can be very motivating. I know what it's like to be at a crossroads so believe me when I say I can relate. Hopefully this post offered some reinforcement!
